Text formatting rules
The text of the article or review must be designed in accordance with the rules of current spelling, with the exception of illustrative material that can be reproduced in accordance with the original.
The publication languages are Ukrainian and English (UK or US, but only one of the variants).
Author cannot use style markers in the text.
Between the initials, between the initial and last name, an unbroken space should be put (simultaneously pressing Ctrl + Shift + space) (e.g.: T. Б. Лукінова, О. О. Тараненко).
The text can contain tables, graphs, images, and charts, etc. Possible deterioration in the quality of illustrations if they are converted to black and white should be taken into account.
Digital footnotes are used for clarifications and explanations that, for a number of reasons, cannot be provided in the text itself. For references to literature, square brackets are used, in which the corresponding source is indicated.
Requirements for illustrations
Phrases and words that are used as examples should be given in italics without quotation marks.
For example:
Запозичення тренд увійшло в розмовну практику в 90-ті роки ХХ століття.
Attention! Punctuation marks between words or phrases given as examples and typed in italics "," ";" ":", "!", "?" as well as round, square, and curly brackets ( ), [ ], { }, and quotation marks « »,‟ ”, ‛ ʼ must be typed in a straight font, not in italics.
For example:
вінок (вінець), калина: носити вінок (калину); «spotkał te podlotki» і т.ін.
Sentences-illustrations are given in a direct light font in quotation marks. Phonemes, morphemes, and symbols are shown in bold. For example:
У жінок більшість зафіксованих пауз гезитації — 65% — заповнена різноманітними звуками (на зразок і-і, е-е, ем, у-у тощо).
Quotes should be given in quotation marks. For Example: A. Arkhangelska: «У польському суспільстві перед другою світовою війною використання чоловічої назви замість жіночої визначалося як варварство» [Архангельська : 79].
If there are quotation marks inside the quotation, the following types of quotation marks should be used: «Ця повість побачила світ у паризькому емігрантському виданні ‟Современные записки”».
The desired word is highlighted in light italics: «І глянеш, як хазяїн домовитий, По своїй хаті і по своїм полі».
Titles should also be given in quotation marks: «Слово о полку Ігоревім».
The meanings of words (in dialectological, etymological studies, etc.) are given in single upper (semantic) quotation marks ‛...’ (for example: нетяга ‛людина без тяглової худоби’).
Author should clearly differentiate between the long dash, middle dash ( – ), and hyphen ( - ). For example:
«Валентність — це...», P. 5–10, 2008–2009, X– centuries (for digital notation); but: синоніми-конверсиви, не сьогодні-завтра.
Author's omissions of the quoted text are indicated by three dots in broken brackets <...>.
References to literature in the text should be given in square brackets: the author's last name (or the first word of the source name), the year of publication (if there are references for various works of the author), a colon (preceded by a space), and the page number(s). For example: [Булаховський]; [Семиколєнова : 31]; [Жайворонок 2018 : 55–56]; [Колесник 2005а : 4–5; Колесник 2005б : 31]; [Слов’янський : 265]; [Lakoff : 105].
Long titles of publications created by groups of authors can be given as abbreviations. If the publication has several volumes, parts, issues, etc., this is reflected in the reference: Słownik prasłowiański, tom I — [SP I].
For example:
Багато хто виводить ім’я від дієслова [Meillet II 1905 : 216; Кузнецов 1954 : 30; SP I 1974 : 383; Králik 2015 : 83].
In addition to the literature, author can specify the sources from which illustrations are taken. The reference to the sources is given in parentheses: abbreviated name of the source, comma, page or sheet number: (В–1, 45), (Лист, арк. 1). In the list of sources, abbreviations should be deciphered. Abbreviations must be identical throughout the text and match the sources indicated at the end of the article.
For example:
На наш погляд, псл. *stegno буквально означало ‛те, що покривається одягом’ (пор. Изб. : 121);
<…> хрестяться й моляться у звичайні дні й у критичних ситуаціях усі віруючі поліщуки: а йа поῐ|ду помо|л’ен’ку/ пр’і|ду ў |хату/ перехреш|чус’ (ГМ–1 : 87).
In the case of a reference to archival documents, the internal reference should be given in parentheses as follows: archive name, fund number, description, case, and sheet number: (ЦДІАЛ. Ф. 101. Оп. 4. Спр. 812. Арк. 1). Subline reference: Матеріали Ради Народних комісарів Української Народної Республіки // ЦДАВО України (Центр держ. архів вищ. органів влади та упр. України). Ф. 1061. Оп. 1. Спр. 8–12. Копія ; Ф. 1063. Оп. 3. Спр. 1–3. In the list of sources, abbreviations should be deciphered indicating the total number of sheets in the document.
