Non-cooperation with aggressor states

The journal Movoznavstvo adheres to the anti-discrimination policiesestablished by the international scholarly community. We do not impose restrictions on, nor show preference to, authors, reviewers, or editorial board members based on ethnicity, race, gender, citizenship, institutional affiliation, or religious, political, or other beliefs.

Nevertheless, during wartime, safeguarding the national security of Ukrainian researchers and readers remains paramount. This encompasses information hygiene, alongside preventing the promotion of armed aggression and anti-Ukrainian or anti-European sentiments. To protect the Ukrainian academic community, the journal maintains a policy of non-cooperation with institutions based in the aggressor state — the Russian Federation — and its allies.

Restrictions on authorship and manuscript content

Movoznavstvodoes not accept submissions authored or co-authored by personnel affiliated with institutions in the aggressor state and its allies, or by independent researchers permanently residing within these territories.

The editors will reject any submission that expresses anti-Ukrainian views or voices support for Russia's war against Ukraine.

Citations and references: Restrictions and guidelines

Citing informational, literary, and academic sources from the aggressor state inherently elevates their social significance, scholarly impact, and author metrics, while potentially legitimising their content. Consequently, any citation of such resources must undergo rigorous editorial scrutiny.

The journal Movoznavstvo permits the justified citation of information sources from the aggressor state exclusively under the following conditions:

• to illustrate, explain, or critically analyse developments within the aggressor state;
• within research focusing on the study of aggressor states, their historical predecessors, or related political entities, subject to critical analysis of the sources;
• provided that the sources are free from propaganda, the "Russian world" (russkiy mir) ideology, anti-Ukrainian rhetoric, or any other official state-sponsored propaganda;
• if the sources have no equivalent alternatives in the respective field of knowledge and/or contain essential statistical data.

Reviewers and editors reserve the right to challenge the inclusion of materials from the aggressor state if they deem them unjustified. Authors may consult the Editorial Board to discuss the appropriateness of referencing sources linked to the aggressor state.

Peer Review Restrictions

The journal does not assign manuscripts for peer review to individuals affiliated with scientific, educational, or other institutions in the aggressor state, nor to independent researchers residing there who publicly manifest anti-Ukrainian views or support Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Editorial Board Eligibility Criteria

The following individuals are ineligible to serve on the journal's Editorial Board:

• scholars affiliated with scientific, educational, or other institutions in the aggressor state, as well as independent researchers permanently residing within its territory;
• authors whose research papers have been accepted for publication after 24 February 2022 in peer-reviewed journals founded or hosted by institutions of the aggressor state;
• researchers who publicly express anti-Ukrainian views or support Russia's war against Ukraine, including via social media platforms.
